Jet Lag  | Club Mondain

Jet lag is commonly described as a temporary sleep problem, difficulty staying alert, problems in the stomach area and a general feeling of unease.

However it is possible to recuperate from the signs. Notably flying east seems to be more problematically, whether going from Europe to Asia or coming back to Europe after having traveled to America.

On average people need one whole day to compensate for every hour of time difference.
But hey, tell me, who has time for that ?

To help you overcome this we want to share a few travel hacks that our members have discovered and might be of interest to you too:

In the plane

  1. During the flight only drink water and do not eat on the plane. You will adjust faster to your new time zone by eating at the next mealtime once you arrive.

  2. Get a day flight (and stay awake) so when you arrive you can go straight to sleep and wake up in the with you ritme adjusted to the new timezone.

  3. However if you actually are an airplane sleeper, book a night fight so you can start the new day refreshed once you arrive.

Upon arrival

  1. If you do arrive during the day. Try to get as much natural (sun)light as you can. This will signal the body to stay awake and energized.

  2. Get grounded by walking on standing on grass or soil for a period of time. You can also hug a tree but those are rare at business hubs plus there will be stares to deal with. However if Deepak Chopra says so there must be something to it.

  3. Hit the ground running and go out to do some exercise as soon as you can in the new timezone. It will increase energy, stimulate metabolism and relax the mind. On the flip side remember to avoid any strenuous exercise about 2 hours before you intend to go to sleep.

We do not believe there is such a thing as a perfect way, but we do believe there is a best way that serves you. In light of these tips do you care to share?
